Being a latina girl can mean a lot of things, but for my hair it means to have a lot of thick and curly hair. Before, it was so hard to get it to be healthy, to grow past my shoulders and be soft; after a bunch of treatments to make my hair silky smooth, my hair started to become more and more fragile. Thankfully, I took a class on hairstyling and after graduating, things for my hair changed. Now, I want to share with you my hair care routine, in hopes that somehow inspires you to have healthy looking hair.
Let’s get started.
First thing you have to do is detangle your hair before you go into the shower. This will help your hair by lowering the amount of hair fall. If you do this with your hair wet, the hair will be more fragile and it will fall off in more quantities. If after rinsing the conditioner you still have to deal with tangles, use a wide tooth comb with soft tips, to prevent hair fall.
Now, before buying a shampoo have in mind the type of hair and scalp you have, your hair needs and the ingredients in the products you are interest in.
(Tip: I always try to look for natural products).
My hair care products are all aimed to attend the needs of my hair in a special way. Here are the products that I use to wash and treat my hair problems.
The shampoo I use is Jason’s Long and Strong Jojoba. Jason’s products are natural and contain ingredients that help your hair in a very healthy way. Also they don’t include parabens, sls, phthalates, so is a good things.
Instructions: First of, using lukewarm water (to help open your hair strands and will receive the product deeper), I use this shampoo by putting a coin size amount on the palm of my hands, rubbing them together and spreading it from my scalp towards my ends. I do this twice and in between I massage my scalp softly, with the tips of my fingers.
I rinse completely using lukewarm water. After that, I take all the water out of my hair and apply Palmer’s Coconut oil Formula Repairing conditioner and leave it for five minutes. Before I used to use a protein based hair mask that was helping with my hair growth, but since is no longer available I switch to this one. My recommendation is that if you can find a protein based natural hair product, go for it.
After that I rinse with slightly cold water and apply my last product. Jason’s Restorative Biotin Conditioner. I leave this for 2 more minutes and rinse with cold water. The cold water will help by closing the hair fiber, helping with slip ends and frizz.
Now that we are done with washing the hair, let’s review the tools that I used.
1. A lot of clamps…
2. 28mm brush - I use the Orange wood brush (you can find this at Sally Beauty Supply)
3. Plugged Ceramic brush (from Sally Beauty Supply)
4. Massaging brush from Earth Therapeutics (Whole Foods Market)
5. a small comb to divide our hair into sections (Sally Beauty Supply)
6. the hair dryer…T3 Brand (Ulta $99)
I am going to be using the T3 brand hair dryer. I bought mine at Ulta for $99 it is the cheaper of the whole brand, but it works great. I decided to go for it when I was looking for a more lightweight hair dryer, since I have a lot of hair and I was getting tired with my old ones.. This one works incredible and it is my favorite.
Now, these are the products that I will be applying to style my hair. The amount is going to vary, depending in the amount of hair you have. I have a lot, so I will be using around two pumps of all of them in the order they appear. The last one, I will use when I finish to add a little bit of oil and shine (also to protect from the weather - it is cold!!!).
I make sure my hair has no tangles on it, divide into sections and dry.
Depending on your hair description, you can use a flat iron to achieve that slick look.
I personally don't use a flat iron when I blow dry my hair, because I achieve the same results by polishing it very well and, also, because I like to have natural (heat less) waves in my ends (and the flat iron prevents me from having them).

After I'm done drying my hair (it takes like and hour and a half or so), I apply the last product and brush it with the massaging brush toward the back of my hair. I create a bun and stay with it for as long as I can, I do this for loose waves on my ends.
Before I finish, I do use one more thing to make my hair grow, that is a Biotin Supplement of 5,000mcg and if you can find a protein based hair mask, go for it. When I first started noticing my hair growth, was when I was using Tresemme Protein Renewal Creme, but sadly is no longer available on market (but you can find it at ebay). Also, a product that I have not been able to try (because it is always sold out) it is the Lee Stanfford Hair Growth Treatment. This one is a protein based treatment and it has very good reviews. You can find it on Ulta (if you are lucky) for $11.99.
